What is Akademikliniken?
Akademikliniken is Scandinavia’s, and one of the world’s largest private hospitals for aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgery. Located in Stockholm, the clinic was founded in 1991 and now has over 100 employees including 8 plastic surgeons, and a dermatologist. The clinic also has a state of the art skin care centre.
The AK skin care range
It was here that the Akademikliniken (AK) skin care range was born after two years of intense research and development. The skin care products are built on biological principles and many years of medical experience, combined with the latest developments in anti-ageing skin care science. The products are carefully designed to effectively treat, prevent and repair each skin care concern regardless of age, skin type or condition - using the highest quality, stable raw materials, in the proper concentration, blending and delivery system for maximum efficacy.
It is for this reason that we can refer to the range as a ‘medical skin care range’ or so called ‘cosmeceuticals’ The range currently consists of 15 products - from cleansers and toners to corrective serums and the newest anti-ageing moisturiser ‘Beauty Through Science’.
What is the AK peel?
The Akademikliniken (AK) peel is a very effective treatment product that has been designed for use by licensed skin therapists only.
The peel consists of a mixture of glycolic, lactic and salicylic acid and when used regularly the client will notice a visible improvement in fine lines, hyperpigmentation, sun damage and acne breakout.
We recommend that peels are performed on a once monthly basis – any more would be too much for the skin and may cause sensitivity.
What results can it achieve?
The AK peel is a ‘21%’ strength glycolic acid peel, so whilst effectively stripping away the top layer of dead skin cells and freshening / brightening the skin and improving lustre and clarity it will not remove entire layers of the epidermis as is often seen on television programmes like ‘Ten Years Younger’. Such peels are usually Trichloretic acid peels (TCA) and must be performed by a doctor under general anaesthetic.
A lot of public confusion does exist regarding peel treatments and so it’s important to be aware that the AK peel is effective in what it does without having any of the side effects such as redness, burning, shedding and flaking of the skin for days afterwards.
For this reason it can be referred to as a ‘lunch-time’ peel – you can reapply makeup afterwards and head back to work without anyone being any the wiser.
